The Pantry: The Heart of Your Kitchen

The more I cook healthy, organic meals from scratch, the more I realize the importance of having a well stocked, efficient pantry. It is a weird feeling, not putting bread, muffins, cookies, ect on your shopping list anymore because you make it yourself, but it's also very rewarding to know exactly what the ingredients are in everything you are making, especially when feeding your child. Having a stocked pantry will also save you money and time in the long run. Once you are confident at whipping things up by yourself you will no longer need to take a 20 minute trip to the grocery store because you forgot something on your grocery list or decided you wanted something extra with dinner...or *nightmare* company showed up unexpectedly. To get your pantry up to par I would suggest buying a couple pantry items each time you go grocery shopping. I would also suggest going to an organic or fresh and natural grocery store where they sell these items in bulk. It saves you money and you don't have to buy a huge amount of something you might not use a lot of. (They also have containers for you so you save money by not having to buy any and your pantry will stay organized!) Here is a list of the staples I try to always have in my pantry:
